This is what I do....it is 3:30 in the morning, and I am up rotating DOGS!!!!!!!!! Yes it sounds crazy, but it is even crazier!
We have had 4 dogs for 2 yrs, they are all big, and they are all iniside. Well for anyone who knows my older sister will know how crazy animal people we are. So we rescued a 5th....he is a Bass-a-dor, Yes a Basset Hound/Labador (Yellow) mix. He is cute and just down right a good dog. Very playful with Logan, and just full of energy, he is a lover, just needs the attention. So the problem you ask? He gets along with 3 of the 4, and unfortunally the one he does not get along with is my baby-boy, we have had Dallas Star since March 2000, and got Shadoe August the same year. Well Shadoe is a Black & Tan Coonhound mix, yes a coon dog, and for those who are not dog savy that translates to "anything smaller and furrier than me has to be removed off the face of the earth". Don't get me worng Shadoe is not an aggressive dog, he is the most lovable 90 lbs lap dog to me and Logan one will ever see, but he is a hunting dog and that is breed in to him. I also found him as a stray so there is no telling what happend to him the 6-8 weeks he was on his own. Someone may have bullied him, thus creating harbored feelings toward others, what if another dog picked on him and made him feel inadequate? What is he was tormented for being an outsider, or being a street dog? I think counsiling is in need........
SO now we have 5 dogs that can not be together. We are trying to place ODIE in a good home, but it is just finding one. I have 2 leads working, so keep your fingers crossed. He and Shadoe rotate their "time out" meaning they take turns in and out of the kennels while one is in then the other is out. I know we are not the smartest people for taking him on, but we could not see him put down. Like I have said he is wonderful with Logan, and that is a big thing. Any doggie who can keep up that boy is a true trooper. I just hope Logan understands what when Odie goes to a new home it is for the best, but I think he will, as long as it is not his Shadoe that is leaving.
